HbbTV aims at integrating broadcast and broadband (Internet) delivery of entertainment and related applications to end users through low-cost connected TV sets or set-top boxes. The initiative is supported by major broadcasters and CE vendors.
The adaptation of HbbTV to mobile devices would allow to consume such services on mobile TV devices and avoid the need to specifically reformat the content and applications for mobile devices. Also, such an extension would allow to use applications with similar user experiences on stationary and mobile devices.
The project is a kind of mission study to analyse: - Potential use cases for the provision of HbbTV formatted content and services on mobile devices.
- The HbbTV technical documents under the aspect of implementation on mobile devices:
- What enhancements would be in particular needed for application consumption on mobile devices with limited size displays? - Which additional signalling and transport mechanisms would be needed for IP-based broadcast/multicast transmission systems, such as DVB-H? - The relationship of HbbTV and other service middleware, especially OMA RME.
- Further actions of bmcoforum.
The project has started in December 2009 und is planned to be finished in 2010.
This work item is chaired by Martin Richartz, Vodafone.
