About bmcoforum
The bmcoforum was formally founded on September 1, 2005 by 11 companies as an international association under German law. The founding meeting approved the bmcoforum Articles and elected the first board.
At the beginning of 2006, recognising their natural synergies, bmcoforum and IP Datacast Forum decided to merge under the bmcoforum brand, thus setting up a unique platform to increase industry influence on regulatory, technical and commercial market development aspects.
In 2006, the bmcoforum members agreed on joint spectrum lobbying activities, set up IPDC standard profiles to speed up the interoperability of platforms and devices, compared bearer mobile broadcast technologies, evaluated their link budgets, described generic and commercial business models, and compared the results of several mobile broadcast pilots.
In 2007, the bmcoforum refined its spectrum policy, responded to the mobile TV and digital communications of the European Commission, agreed on recommendations for implementation guidelines based on OMA BCAST enabler specification, evaluated the relevance of main network design options and issues, initiated the assessment of implemented commercial business models, considered interactive mobile TV services as well as mobile advertising issues.
In 2008, the bmcoforum finalised its recommendations for implementation guidelines based on OMA BCAST enabler specification. bmcoforum also analysed the status of national licensing frameworks as well as best practice regulatory frameworks for mobile TV, updated its mobile broadcast business models study, published a set of interactive mobile broadcast use cases and completed a document on functional requirements for audience measurement for mobile TV.
In 2009, the bmcoforum initiated new work items to reflect the increased convergence of mobile and fixed media consumption by using different services via mobile, fixed and broadcast networks. The first actions taken were: a study on mobile services for seamless media consumption was published, and a public workshop on audience measurement for mobile media content consumption was held. bmcoforum also published an extended version of its recommendations for implementation guidelines based on OMA BCAST enabler specification.
In 2010, the bmcoforum focuses on business models for traffic off-loading from mobile networks to broadcast and fixed (including WiFi) delivery networks as well as on mobile-fixed integration scenarios for media delivery (Mobifix).
